Lines made of combining marks
These styles do not replace letters. They add a combining mark after each character: a long stroke for Strikethrough, a diagonal for Slash, a line below for Underline. Because the letter itself does not change, the styles work with Latin, Cyrillic, Greek and other alphabets.
Underline skips letters with descenders, like g, p and y, as the Fonts & Tags keyboard does, so the line does not cut through them.
When you copy
Each letter comes with its mark, so the text is longer than it looks: a 10-letter word becomes 20 characters. Keep that in mind in places with a character limit.
Questions
How do I cross out text on Instagram?
Copy the Strikethrough result and paste it. Instagram has no formatting, but the marks travel with the letters.
Why is my crossed-out text counted as twice as long?
Every letter is followed by an invisible combining mark, and many apps count it as a separate character.
Does strikethrough work in Discord?
Discord messages support ~~tildes~~. Unicode strikethrough also works in your name and status.
