Circles, squares and frames

Circles and Filled Circles use the circled letters of Unicode, Ⓐ and 🅐. Square and Filled Square put each letter on a tile, 🄰 and 🅰. They have only capital letters, so lower case turns into capitals.

Circle Frame and Square Frame draw a frame around any character, including Russian and Ukrainian letters. Frames are drawn by a combining mark, and some fonts place it slightly off centre.

Good to know

Filled circles and squares look like emoji on many phones and take more space. On older devices some of them show as boxes: check the preview on your phone before posting.

Questions

Why do my lowercase letters become capitals?

Squares and black circles exist in Unicode only as capital letters.

Which bubble style works with Cyrillic?

Circle Frame and Square Frame. They add a frame to any letter.

Why do two letters sometimes turn into a flag?

That happens with regional indicator letters, the Dots-Square style. We put an invisible separator between them so pairs like U and S do not become 🇺🇸.
